# What Is a Refund, in Simple Terms?

A *refund* (from the English word *refund* – to return money) is a scheme where you get your money back for a product or service **without actually returning the item**.

Sounds like a cheat code, right? That’s because in many ways, it is — but not in a video game. This “cheat” exploits loopholes in the return policies of big brands, online marketplaces, and service providers.

Here’s how it typically works:\
You order something, then contact customer support and, using a specific excuse or claim, request a refund. They process it — and you keep both the money **and** the product.

Now, before you jump to conclusions: **this isn’t just “stealing,”** as many people assume.\
It's more like playing by the broken rules that these companies themselves created. You're not hacking the system — you're simply using the flaws that already exist.
